In 1845, Don Jaime Partagás y Ravelo founded his own factory, Real Fábricas de Tobaco Partagás, after a long career in the Cuban tobacco industry. The factory is located at 60 Industrial Street, Havana. The name of the Cuban Cigar Factory translates to “Royal Tobacco Factory of Partagas,” a name chosen because Jaime supplied cigars to the nobility of Asia and Europe. Don Jaime had some of the best tobacco as he owned a large number of the largest tobacco plantations in Vuelta Abajo, Cuba. So this meant that some of the best plantations in the world belonged to him. Owning such valuable plantations meant he could select the best tobaccos, making the brand very successful. Partagas cigars have always been famous for their classic tobacco blends and craftsmanship. Partagas cigars tobacco leaves mostly come from the famous Vuelta Abajo producing area in Cuba, where the soil and climate conditions are considered the most suitable for tobacco cultivation. Partagas cigars are generally known for their dark, oily appearance and sturdy construction. Don Jaime experimented with various fermentation and aging processes on harvested tobacco and was the first to hire a lector to read to factory workers rolling cigars.
